New 2M Repeater in Falmouth

There’s a new repeater on 2 meters in Falmouth, as of this week. The antenna is mounted on the WFAL tower, giving it fantastic elevation and coverage. I was on it tonight, and was talking to people from as far away as Boston and Providence, RI loud and clear. In fact, the guy from Providence was calling in using only 20 watts!

If you’re anywhere in the general region, call in and see who’s on. I’ll be monitoring it a lot, that’s for sure! It’s on 147.375+ PL 110.9, and on EchoLink node 276022. Check it out!

Long Overdue Update

So since I haven’t made a new post since the end of October, I thought it would be appropriate to post a few updates.  I’ve been able to hit some repeaters nearby, including the FARA 2 meter and the SCMARG 2 meter in Fairhaven.

I’ve bought two new antennae.  One is a mag mount from Radio Shack, and the other is a Diamond 2 meter/70cm high-gain.  They both have great performance, and can push my signal quite far for an HT (about 25-30 miles?).

I’ve also joined FARA, so I’m now affiliated with a local club.  As a student at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, I’m also working on getting a club going at the school, so I’ll keep updates about that here.

I’m going to try to post a little more often than once every six months, so we’ll see how it goes.

New Radio!

I just got a new radio, an Icom IC-T90A handheld. My first impressions are very good, although I need to replace the stock antenna since it doesn’t seem to be too powerful. I’m trying to hit repeaters near Buzzards Bay, MA but I’m not having any luck yet. If you’re in the area, I’m listening on the FARA 2 meter repeater most of the time.
